Waverley Adult Literacy Program Inc. has been operating in the City of Monash since 1978.
The program began with a handful of volunteers offering to coach adults to learn to read and write.
Over the years the program has developed and grown and many students have found the key to the mystery of English. Many students have gone on to further study, obtained employment or promotion or simply gained more confidence as they see their literacy skills improving.
Today we offer a wide range of programs to meet the current needs of the community.
If you are fluent in spoken English you may need to brush up on your spelling, report writing or other literacy skills that have eluded you in the past.
If you are a new Australian you may need to learn how to communicate in English. You may need to learn the sound system or simply how to write the sounds.
You may have a mild disability and need some day to day living skills.
Perhaps you have commenced another accredited course which you are finding a little difficult. You may need one to one tuition for a while to assist you to succeed in your course.
The programs we offer are constantly reviewed to ensure that we are addressing the current needs of our community.
We help you to set and monitor your literacy goals and develop pathways to assist you to keep on track with your goals.
To succeed in our culture, you need to be literate. This is your right.
The Waverley Adult Literacy Program Committee of Management is people elected from the community by the community. Their varying backgrounds enable them to provide valuable input and each member contributes to the operation and smooth running of the program.
